Our creative director

With his thought and theme leadership, our creative director Konrad Otto-Zimmermann has shaped topics and terms, developed methodologies and initiated numerous national and international initiatives, programs and congress series. Here are some key examples:

• Public transport (1972) - Creation of an acronym for "local public transport" and introduction of a state-wide school competition organized by the citizens' initiative for environmental protection in Lower Saxony
• Bicycle-friendly city (1978) - Cross-departmental initiative of the federal government, national model project as well as the first bicycle promotion program of the Federal Government
• Ecological Building (1982) - technical term for Building according to ecological principles, at the Federal Environment Agency publication of the first basic work on the subject by Dirk Althaus and Per Krusche at the Bauverlag; Initiation of a series of annual meetings; Publication of a series of books at Bauverlag
• Umweltverbund (1986) - Creation of the technical term and the basis for a priority and integrated planning for pedestrian traffic, bicycle traffic and public transport
• Environmental impact assessment in the local government (1988) - with Monika Zimmermann initiation of the series of biennial EIA congresses (1988, 1990 and 1992 in Freiburg, hiking since then); Publication of a series of publications by the CFMüller publishing house, Karlsruhe
• ecoProcura (1996) - at ICLEI creation of the brand and initiation of a (two) annual international conference series on the topic of environmentally friendly and sustainable public procurement
• Municipal Environmental Budgeting / ecoBudget (1996) - at ICLEI creation of the term and methodical Laying the foundations for a communal management of natural resources; Publication of a manual by Kohlhammer-Verlag
• Resilient Cities (2002) - at ICLEI creation of the term, methodological foundation and initiation of the annual global forum for urban resilience and adaptation of cities to climate change (since 2010 annually in Bonn)
• Barreo © (2007) - Invention and development of a strategy board game
• Ecomobility (2007) - at ICLEI creation of the international technical term for the environmental association, foundation of the Global Alliance for Ecomobility; Initiation of an international series of congresses (since 2011)
• EcoMobility World Festivals (2013, 2015, 2017) - Initiation and management as creative director, festivals in Suwon/South Korea, Johannesburg/South Africa, Kaohsiung/Taiwan
• EcoMobility Expo Online - production of a virtual exhibition of small non-motorized and electric city vehicles and mobility aids at www.ecomobility-expo.net
